CRONOS’s first field work – scouting for locations for accelerographs deployment

The first field research within the framework of Component 2 of the CRONOS project was carried out between June 27 and July 1, 2022. Asst. Prof. Davor Stanko and Jakov Stanislav Uglešić, collaborators on the project, visited Šibenik, Split, Trilj, Imotski, Vrlika, Sinj, Cista Provo and Dugopolje.

The first destination was the city of Šibenik, where a trial installation of the accelerograph was performed in the Museum of the City of Šibenik. The next destination was the city of Split, more precisely the Natural History Museum of the city of Split, where an initial meeting was held regarding the installation of accelerograph with Mr. Nediljko Ževrnja, director of the Natural History Museum of the city of Split.

On Tuesday, 28 June 2022, an initial meeting was held in the City of Trilj with Mr. Ivan Šušnjar, the representative of the City and the head of CEKOM 3LJ (Čaporice). A potential location for the installation of the accelerograph was agreed upon, and the director Šušnjar offered the PUC 3LJ conference hall for holding educational and promotional activities within the CRONOS project. On the same day, an initial meeting was held with Kristijan Stipanović, the Franciscan monastery’s guardian in Imotski, regarding the installation of an accelerograph on the monastery’s premises.

On Wednesday, 29 June 2022, a meeting was held in Vrlika with representatives of the City: Jure Plazonić (mayor), Marijana Matić (head of the JUO of the City of Vrlika) and Nikola Uzun (EU department of the City of Vrlika), regarding the installation of the borehole accelerograph. After the agreement on the potential location, preliminary microtremor measurements and a geophysical survey of the soil column were done for drilling of the borehole.

The following day, 30 June 2022, a meeting was held in Sinj with representatives of the City: Denis Bobeta (deputy mayor) and Ivana Pavić (acting Head of the Administrative Department for Economic Development, European Union Funds and Public Procurement). Potential locations for research boreholes were discussed and microzonation of the city of Sinj, as a part of the CRONOS project, was agreed upon. A short meeting on educational activities for children was also held with the acting principle Marko Križanac of the Marko Marulić Primary School in Sinj. Afterwards, an initial meeting was held with the mayor of the municipality of Cista Provo, Božo Ćubić, regarding the installation of accelerographs on the premises of the municipality of Cista Provo and on the premises of the Aržano Elementary School.

On the last day of the field investigation, Friday 1 July 2022, a meeting was held in Dugopolje municipality with mayor Perica Bosančić. On the same day, an initial meeting was held in the City of Split regarding the installation of the accelerograph with representatives of the City: Mirna Veža (Commissioner of the Government of the Republic of Croatia for the City of Split), Ivan Parlov, Marina Protić, Anto Krželj, Damir Babić, Leona Grotić, Teo Vojković and Zrinka Žuljević (Department for Security and Crisis Management).
