On Monday, November 7 2023, starting at 2:15 PM, at the Split Faculty of Science CRONOS project collaborators Josip Stipčević, Dinko Šindija and Helena Latečki held a seminar titled “Predavanja iz seizmologije”. In the introductory lecture, Dinko presented the project and its objectives, and later, through another presentation discussed the results of his research on the application of machine learning in the analysis of seismological data. Josip presented the results of recent research on the core and upper mantle of the Dinarides, while Helena presented current results on the topic of physics-based ground motion modeling of the earthquake in the central Adriatic region. The entire event was previously announced on the website more.slobodnadalmacija.hr.
On Tuesday, November 8 2023, the project collaborators also held a popular-science lecture on earthquakes and seismology for the children in the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade of the Žrnovnica Elementary School. The children actively participated in experiments and discussions and in addition to learning about the origin, recording and analysis of earthquakes, they also heard about the temporary seismological station HR08A which is located at the Gornje Sitno School and was set up as part of the CRONOS project in collaboration with the elementary school.
