Microzonation of the city of Sinj – HVSR measurements

May 31, 2023 | News

In the period of May 15th to 19th 2023, the field team of Component 2 of the CRONOS project (Dvornik, Lončar, Mravlja and Turudić) conducted comprehensive field research in the area of Sinj as part of the microzonation of the city. The city area is divided into a network of almost 90 points at a distance of 200-300 m, at which microseismic disturbance was measured using the HVSR method with Tromino devices (financed with CRONOS project funds). Each member of the field team independently investigated one location per given moment, with unfavourable weather and traffic conditions often resulting in repeated measurements. An important aspect of the geophysical measurements is the correlation with the local geological site conditions (especially with regard to the complexity of the terrain, mostly in the outskirts of the city) and the field geological interpretation was made by Bruno Mravlja, a project collaborator.

The main objective of the measurements was to determine the resonance frequencies of soil in the research area, and additionally the values VS30 and H800. The results of the conducted research will certainly contribute to a better understanding of the properties of soils and rocks, while also providing a seismic basemap necessary for urban planning.
