Participation in the conference “Innovation in Disaster Prevention” in Krakow

Project employee and collaborator on the Component 2, Lada Dvornik, attended the EEA/Norway Grants conference Innovation in Disaster Prevention in Krakow from 9th of May until 11th of May 2023.

The conference organizers were the Governments of Poland and Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland.

Majority of speakers were risk experts from Poland and Norway. On the first day, the focus was on the challenges in risk disaster prevention, on the second day the solutions of these challenges were discussed, while the last day was all about the opportunities that lie in the mentioned innovative solutions. There was an opportunity to learn more about the nature of risks for Poland and Norway, such as floods and avalanches, as well as their approach to the minimisation of such risks.

There were representatives of private companies which use satellites and drones for identification of the most damaged zones after a disaster as well as for finding victims using thermal cameras which were used after the extremely damaging earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
